City of Lincoln Council

The City of Lincoln Council is one of the Lincoln office’s longest standing clients and we are proud that this relationship continues today. It is always rewarding for local employees to be involved with projects for the local community. Services have been provided on a variety of both new and refurbishment projects including housing, leisure, offices, workshops and a number of other civic/community buildings.

Two notable recent projects are the award winning Think Tank and The Terrace as detailed below:-

The Think Tank Innovation Centre’s award winning design draws its inspiration from the nearby First World War tank training centre, the cladding fixings are a nod to the rivets used in the tank construction and they have even managed “tank” in the name. The building is intended to encourage innovation in small businesses and includes managed offices, workshops and conference areas. Shared spaces are bundled together and there is a courtyard to encourage interaction. Keeping the project to a tight timescale and within the £7 million budget was a challenge met by Thornton-Firkin and the project team. Sustainabilty was a big driver and the building has a biodiverse roof to resemble a Lincolnshire Meadow, it is highly insulated with exposed concrete soffits used in conjunction with natural ventilation to provide passive and radiant cooling. Heating is provided by a ground source heat pump system. The eye catching building is clad in Rockpanel’s Chameleon system which changes colour, depending on the angle of light falling on it giving the building an iridescent glow.

The Terrace is a creative industry managed workspace situated in the heart of Lincoln’s Cultural Quarter offering 51 serviced workshops, studios and offices exclusively available to the creative sector with a meeting space, conference facilities and a café.
