Working in Partnership with the Augustinians we have undertaken three phases of refurbishment work. The oldest parts of the church date back to 1877 with a large side extension constructed between 1976 and 1978. Refurbishment works were undertaken within the new and old elements of the church comprising re-roofing of the original church roof, replacement of the skylight above the main alter, redecoration of the old church and the installation of a new suspended ceiling.

Other Heritage Projects

The western face of the steeply sloping roof consisted of the original slate roof tiles from when the Church was constructed in 1877 with only remedial works in the intervening years.  Due to the ravages of time slates had started to slip and watrer ingress was damaging the ornate timber vaulted ceiling.  The existing slates were removed, the rotten timber replaced/repaired and the slates relayed over a new breathable felt membrane.  The original stone parapets and ornate ridge finials were replaced/rebedded and the rainwater goods were realigned.

The original Chapel was last decorated in 1976 and the outside walls were suffering from damp penetration due to water ingress from the badly installed guttering.  The existing stained-glass windows were cleaned and a new insultated suspended ceiling installed complete with low energy LED light fittings.

The Georgian wired skylight above the alter was added as part of the 1976 extension but the seals had failed and the glass could not be cleaned.  The skylight was removed and new double-glazed aluminium polyester powder coated rooflights were installed with remote controlled black-out blinds and low energy LED spotlights.
