South Holland District Council/Boston College Red Lion Quarter

The Red Lion Quarter is a unique mixed use development in the centre of Spalding. It was delivered in partnership between South Holland District Council and Boston College using the Scape East Midlands Contractor’s Framework. The vision was to create a focal point that celebrates the rich food heritage that the area offers using a previously derelict site to help regenerate this part of the town.

Thornton-Firkin managed the project team delivering a successful construction project to time and budget. We were the Project Manager under an NEC Form of Contract, with Willmott Dixon as the Scape Framework Contractor and Fielden + Mawson were the Architects. A BREEAM very good rating was achieved and thirty seven per cent of the project spend was with companies within twenty miles of the site together with eighty nine per cent within sixty miles.

The facility provides: -

  • A satellite of Boston College enabling the local population to benefit from a range of vocational training courses.
  • A College operated restaurant ‘SAGE’ enabling students and apprentices to train in a realistic commercial environment. This is supported by Lincolnshire born Michelin star chef Jason Atherton.
  • Serviced office accommodation for small and start up businesses,
  • Meeting rooms and event space.
  • Food Court specialising in Lincolnshire Produce.

The project was funded in a partnership between South Holland District Council, Boston College, East Midlands Development Agency, Lincolnshire County Council and Lincolnshire Enterprise.
