The University invested £19m to create the new Sarah Swift Building for the College of Social Sciences. This will provide a new home for the Schools of Health and Social Care and Psychology and the Professional Development Centre which provides ongoing training for medical professionals within Lincolnshire. The five-storey facility will house a range of accommodation for use by the individual schools alongside more genral facilities for use by the wider University, including specialist research laboratories, IT teaching, simulated clinical environments and academic and support offices.
The two schools will be separated to retain and define their individual identities. Architectually, this separation is expressed in the form of a central atrium which defines the two departments and creates a vertical core around which the shared facilities are located.
Thornton-Firkin have provided Cost Management services, including a two-stage procurement route and the utilisation of the NEC3 Contract.
