University of Nottingham The Ingenuity Centre

The University of Nottingham’s Ingenuity Centre is a new technology business incubator facility located in one of only four UK University enterprise zones. The unique circular three-storey building is part BIS funded and provides 2000m2 of cutting edge innovative workspace accommodation. With convex elevations fully shrouded in bespoke bronze aerofoil brise soleil fins, bold internal layouts and a unique circular central atrium Ideas Space the development is iconic and visually stunning.

The new building provides a visual reference to the tyres previously manufactured by Raleigh Bicycles on the site.  With a building footprint of 808m2 and lettable space of 1600m2 the heavily glazed building provides a mix of vibrant modern space including various office configurations, open hot desk space, boardroom space, seminar space and extensive break out space.  The project operated within strict time and budget restrictions and construction was challenging due to complex site constraints, adjacent construction works and the existing operational campus and Innovation Park.  The project was opened in late 2016 having been completed to programme and within budget.

Thornton-Firkin provided Project Management services to the University under the terms of the Project & Cost Mangement Consultant Framework and successfully led the Project Team through an extensive re-design and procurement process prior to site delivery.  The project has been short-listed for various industry awards.
