This rural exception site of 10 family dwellings constructed for the Muir Group Housing Association is located within the heart of the tranquil village of Bunbury, Cheshire with panoramic views over the village church and surrounding undulating countryside. Constructed utilising highly energy efficient construction techniques this Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 rating development also incorporates a whole house heat recovery system and a low cost electric storage heating system.

The layout and design of this site was particularly challenging due to it rural setting and third party rights of way but following a lengthy planning consultation process the sympathetic elevation treatments and orientation of the dwellings that match the local village vernacular were supported by the Parish Council and Planning Officer.
To celebrate the success of the villages’ most famous inhabitant the site access road was named after Gymnast Beth Tweddle and the individual property names were also selected by pupils from the Local Primary School. In keeping with the theme of ‘2012’ the winning property names include Corgi Cottage, Athletic House and Diamond House.
The scheme has recently been shortlisted for a NHBC Buildmark Choice award for best rural affordable housing scheme.
